The film responsible for re-inventing, re-invigorating that most awesome of horror sub-genres: the slasher! I remember seeing this for the first time and I was like whoa! There was so much going on in this film. It was a film that made fun of the slasher film genre formula while simultaneously following said formula while also adding twists!
The real draw for this movie, the only true film star at the time, was Drew Barrymore. When they killed her off in the first opening reel of the movie, I knew I was in for something special. All you horror nerds might remember they did the same thing in another film. You might have heard of it. Psycho! In the time of Psycho, Janet Leigh, the iconic shower scene victim, had been a movie star of the time.
I remember watching the film, barely blinking, laughing, and reveling in the glory of this original, but not original, smart, horror film.
