My oldest is in University. He’s going to school for film studies, so to say he has a love of films would be an understatement. And more importantly, he picks the right films to love. He introduced me to the CRITERION collection and if you don’t know what that is, you can check it out here:
Essentially, film industry experts pick films they believe to be smart, influential, and important in some way. My son had me watch a movie titled, ‘M’ from 1931. I could see how this one film influenced Alfred Hitchcock’s PSYCHO, Jonathan Demme’s film you might have heard of, SILENCE OF THE LAMBS, and countless others. There was so much in this film, really, I was kind of shocked I hadn’t heard of it before my son told me about it. But yeah, getting back to HALLOWEEN.
Near the University my son is going to, there is a theater playing the ORIGINAL 1978 horror film, HALLOWEEN! Yes!
Other theaters are doing this too, but not the mainstream ones, and I wouldn’t even have known of it if my son didn’t tell me about it. I have never seen this movie in the theaters. I was a toddler when it came out. I am so excited to see it on the big screen with my son and co-host of our podcast, MOVIES OF THE DAMNED!! Kyle Grant.
And then the direct sequel is opening in the mainstream theatres this weekend and on Rotten Tomatoes, they are scoring it at…hold your breath…83%! What?!
Even though the original is still maintaining a 93%, generally, horror films rarely get such a score. To get a good score as a sequel to a horror movie is even rarer, so, yeah, I’ll be seeing that this weekend too. And expect our ruminations available for listening on our podcast soon.
